The Trifola d’Or guarantee
No truffle reaches a stall without the judges’ approval
Murisengo is one of very few fairs in Italy with such a strict inspection protocol. The town is a founding member of the National Truffle Study Centre (CNST) in Alba, whose sensory-analysis judges examine every truffle, white or black, before the fair opens.
Before it goes on sale
- PresentationLocal truffle hunters (trifolau) and dealers bring their truffles to the panel.
- Sensory analysisThe CNST judges assess every truffle. Any that fail are withdrawn and returned when the fair closes.
- Weighed and countedApproved truffles are weighed and counted: only these may be sold.
After you buy
- Numbered bagEvery truffle sold goes into a numbered, stamped bag, so you can always trace the seller.
- Free checkAll day long the judges are at the central desk in Piazza della Vittoria to check the truffle you bought, free of charge.
- ExchangeIf your truffle turns out unfit to eat, the number on the bag lets you exchange it.
First time? Ask the judges: they will help you choose the right truffle, before and after you buy.
Many hunters also carry the Murisengo municipal quality mark (De.Co.).

“Smell, buy, enjoy and give truffles you can trust.”

The Murisengo truffle
Truffle country, in the Valcerrina
Murisengo sits at 312 metres among vineyards, hazelnut groves, olive trees and woods, on the edge of the Monferrato Casalese. The chalky soil and climate of the Valcerrina produce a Tuber magnatum Pico prized for its aroma and quality.
On autumn and winter nights, until January, the trifolau go out with their tabui, the truffle dogs. It is knowledge handed down through generations and part of village life.
Beyond truffles, the fair brings Grignolino and Barbera, Fresia, hazelnut cake, cured meats, goat’s cheese, honey, olive oil and local saffron to the square.

TargatoMurisengo & Dintorni pop-up shop
At Via Asti 2, also the town info point: producers from Murisengo and Villadeati with wine, saffron, pastries, hazelnuts, fresh pasta, cured meats and goat’s cheese, straight from the farm.
Our story
Almost five centuries of fairs
- 1530The St Martin’s Fair begins, the trading hub of the Valcerrina and the Monferrato Casalese.
- 1967The first Murisengo Truffle Fair.
- 2025The 58th edition is the first as an International Fair.
- 202659th edition, Sundays 15 and 22 November.
For over fifteen years the town council and the Fair Committee have built a fair on a human scale: certified truffles, the best of Monferrato, fine crafts and the village’s history, from the castle once held by Frederick Barbarossa to the Romanesque tower of San Pietro.
